MOT FAQs

What is an MOT?

An MOT (Ministry of Transport) test is an annual safety check to ensure your vehicle meets the UK’s minimum road safety and environmental standards. It's a legal requirement for most vehicles over 3 years old.

When is my MOT due?

Your MOT is due every 12 months once your car reaches 3 years of age (from date of registration). You can check your MOT status for here for free or call us and we’ll check it for you.

Can I book my MOT early?

Yes! You can have your MOT done up to 1 month (minus a day) before it’s due date and still keep your existing renewal date. For example, if your MOT expires on July 20th, you can have it tested as early as June 21st.

What does an MOT test include?

We check key safety and emissions components, including:

  • Brakes
  • Heels & Tyres
  • Suspension & Steering
  • Lights and indicators
  • Windscreen, wipers & washers
  • Exhaust system and emissions
  • Seat belts
  • Horn
  • Mirrors
…and more.

What if my car fails the MOT?

If your vehicle doesn’t pass, we’ll explain exactly why and provide a free quote for any necessary repairs. We give you a free retest within 10 working days if repairs are carried out and the vehicle is returned for retest within the time frame.

How much does an MOT cost?

Our standard MOT test price is £50 though we offer discounts when you combine a service with an MOT – call us to ask about current deals!

How long does an MOT take?

A typical MOT test takes around 45–60 minutes. We're just a quick stroll from the town centre or Tesco so why not indulge in a little retail therapy while your vehicle is being tested.

Do you offer MOTs for vans or commercial vehicles?

Yes! We carry out Class 4 and 7 MOTs, which cover cars and light commercial vehicles all the way up to 3,500kg. If you're not sure which class your vehicle falls into, just give us a call and we'll guide you.

What if I drive without a valid MOT?

Driving without a valid MOT is illegal (unless you're driving to a pre-booked test). You could face a £1,000 fine, and your insurance may be invalid. It’s always better to book early and avoid the risk!
